WINONA LAKE, Ind. – No. 7 seed Indiana Wesleyan men’s soccer and No. 2 seed Grace College played to a 3-3 tie Wednesday in what turned out to be an epic finish by the Wildcats.

Down two goals with six minutes left in the match, the madness began. CJ Strawser netted his second goal of the match bringing, the Wildcats within one goal. Just four minutes later, Luis Rodriquez would square things up at three goals apiece giving the Wildcats a chance in overtime.

After two overtime periods and very limited attempts, the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals would be decided by a shootout. After 14 attempts by both squads, IWU would come away with the 11-10 advantage.
SANFORD PERSPECTIVE

  • What a game that was. I couldn’t be more proud of these guys. Grace really played well in spells and had us chasing a bit. But we were resilient and found a way at the end. We’ve been building all year to peak at this time and we are prepared for a run. And, ultimately, Naoya Fugonois an IWU soccer legend.

NEXT TIME ON THE PITCH

  • IWU will play at Huntington on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Crossroads League Tournament Semifinals.
