SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – No. 21 Indiana Wesleyan women’s basketball picked up their fifth straight win Saturday, defeating Spring Arbor University 77-46. The Wildcats have started the Crossroads League season with a perfect 5-0 start, matching their start from a season ago. IWU is the only undefeated League team with Marian sitting in second with a record of 4-1.

FROM DOWNTOWN

  • IWU went 5-of-11 from behind the arc in the first quarter, giving them a 10-point advantage entering the second quarter. IWU ended the game shooting 40% on 8-of-20.

THIRD QUARTER ENDING

  • IWU started the second half on a 14-4 run, forcing six SAU turnovers and a Spring Arbor timeout. Indiana Wesleyan would score 20 points in the quarter, stretching their lead to 26 while forcing 11 SAU turnovers.

FIVE STRAIGHT WINS

  • Freshman Margot Woughterhas taken off in her last five games, averaging 21 points while shooting 58% from three.
  • Junior Elaine Ededuwa has picked up two double-doubles in back to back games while averaging nine points and eight rebounds off the bench. IWU has outrebounded their opponents 226 to 159 through five contests.

WHALEY PERSPECTIVE

  • I was really proud of the focus and purpose our team played with today. It wasn’t always pretty but our grit and togetherness never wavered.
  • Our team has grown a lot over the past five games. There have been good stretches and bad stretches, but we’ve managed to learn and grow every step of the way. It’s still so early but I’m proud of the strides we’ve taken and look forward to continued growth through the month of December.

NEXT TIME OUT

  • IWU hosts Madonna on December 18th with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
