MARION, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan football continues to make history, taking home not one but two NAIA Player of the Week awards for the first time in program history. Cameron Lauck earned the award on the defensive side of the ball while Ben Vongunten represented the special teams.
“Ben and Cam were great representations of the passion and perseverance that the entire team played with on Saturday,” said head coach Jordan Langs. “They have both worked extremely hard and were responsible for few game-changing moments.”
Lauck collected two interceptions for the Wildcats Saturday, with both resulting in scoring drives for IWU. The junior added nine tackles to his resume, bringing his season total to 43. It is the second time this season Lauck has collected nine or more tackles in a game.
Vongunten carries the load as the punter and kicker for the Wildcats, having claimed his second MFSA Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Vongunten tallied six punts Saturday, for an average punt of 48-yards. Vongunten followed up his stellar punts, making field goals from 27 and 38-yards long. Vongunten currently ranks 3rd in the NAIA in total field goals, and field goals-per-game. On the punting side, Vongunten ranks 4th in the NAIA in yards per-punt.
