Kanu Continues to Score for Nigeria, Named to Provisional Squad

ABIDJAN, COTE D’IVOIRE- Southeastern University forward Uchenna Kanu continues to make an impact on the international stage. Kanu netted another goal in the West Africa Football Union Women’s Cup, her ninth of the tournament, in a 2-0 Nigeria victory over Mali in their final match of group play.

Additionally, Kanu has been named to the provisionary squad for the Nigeria Women’s National Team for next month’s Women’s World Cup in France.

The Abia, Nigeria native has cemented a place on the roster of 27 due to her prolific goal scoring in the WAFU Cup, leading her home nation’s team to win Group B. Nigeria will now face Group A runners-up Ghana in the tournament semifinals tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. eastern.

After the team’s campaign at the WAFU tournament, they will travel to Austria for a two-week camp.

Following the programming, Nigeria head coach Thomas Dennerby is expected to name his final list of 23 players for the World Cup, which begins June 8.
