VIENNA, AUSTRIA- Southeastern University women’s soccer forward Uchenna Kanu will compete on the grandest stage any footballer could aspire to compete on. Kanu was selected to the Nigeria Roster of 23 for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Paris.
The official roster was announced by head coach Thomas Dennerby during a team World Cup-prep camp in Austria.
“It’s an unbelievable achievement for Uche and a testament to all her hard work that she has put in individually and into the program,” shared Southeastern head coach head coach Randy Belli.
Kanu earned the World Cup spot after a ten-goal performance in the West African Football Union Women’s Cup this past month, guiding her home nation’s team to the championship and receiving the Golden Boot as the tournament’s leading scorer.
The official release of all 24 participating country’s squads will be sent out by FIFA next Monday.
Kanu and the rest of the Nigerian World Cup Squad will arrive in host nation France on Tuesday June 4, four days ahead of their kickoff match versus Norway on June 8 at 6 a.m. eastern.
