SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Senior guard Kyleigh Kubik led Indiana University South Bend women’s basketball with a season-high 22 points on Saturday afternoon as the Titans rolled past Governors State inside the Student Activities Center by a score of 67-50. IUSB is now winners of two straight, improving to 9-1 overall and 3-1 during Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
Kubik went 7-of-12 from the floor, including a season-high 6-of-10 from behind the arc to lead the Titan offense while junior Kylie Fehrman added 14 points and three rebounds. Freshman Emma Fisher had a solid overall performance with nine points, four rebounds and five assists.
As a team, IUSB for the game shot 49.0 percent from the field, including a quarter-high 60 percent in the second quarter. The Titans had 24 turnovers to the Jaguars’ 22 with IUSB scoring 17 off turnovers. GSU led the advantage in scoring down low with 32 points in the paint compared to the Titans’ 22. For the first time this season the Crimson & Cream bench scored below 20 points with 17 on day.
The Titans came out strong in the first quarter by a score of 16-11 before outscoring the Jaguars 19-11 in the second 10 minutes. The Jaguars weren’t going to give up in the second half but were unable to erase the first half deficit as IUSB earned its fifth victory at home this season.
IU South Bend continues CCAC play next week with a clash on Tuesday, Nov. 26 in Palos Heights, Ill. at Trinity Christian. Tipoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. (EST) against the Trolls.
