Lady Chargers Defeat Harcum 83-66 in NJCAA Women’s Basketball Championship

Harrison, AR – South Bend native Alyssa Williams came off the bench to score 16 points and lead Ancilla College to an 83-66 victory over Harcum College in the second round of action in the National Junior College Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Championship Thursday afternoon. Williams hit four of her five three-point shots and six of her eight total shots in the contest. She scored two three-pointer in each half at critical times.

Ancilla (26-6) will play at 2 p.m. Friday against Union County College, a 93-80 overtime   winner over Cecil College. A win on Friday puts the Lady Chargers in the 7th place game on Saturday.

“I didn’t like the way we started. I thought we started really slow on the boards and on defense but we showed a lot of grit in the 2nd half to get the victory,” Head Coach Tom Robbins said. “We hit some big shots at key times under pressure to pull out the victory.”

LaRae Roscoe led all scorers with 18 points and added six assists. Alyssa Williams and Donshae Daniels netted 16 points each, while Daniels also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and had three steals. She also hit 10 of 14 free throws in the contest. Brynda Krueger finished with 12 points and eight rebounds and Karson Williams had nine points, including three triples.

Ancilla started quick, but Harcum took control of the first quarter for a 21-15 lead after 10 minutes. The Bears led by as many as eight points in the first half. The Lady Chargers fought back to tie the game at 35-35 at halftime. The last two quarter belonged to Ancilla as they pulled away for the win, leading by 20 for most of the last four minutes.
