Lady Lancers top Concordia on the road

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Grace’s women’s basketball picked up its second road win of the week, beating Concordia 69-60 on Wednesday.

The Lady Lancers used a big fourth quarter to pull away from the Cardinals (0-1), fueled by a game-high 26 points from Kyannah Stull.

“We knew this was going to be a good early-season test for our team, playing our second game in three nights against a good team. I’m excited for our team to come out with a good road win like this,” said Grace head coach Dan Davis. “We didn’t get off to a great start, but as the game progressed we kept getting better. It’s definitely a win that we want to build on.”

Similar to Grace’s season opener on Monday, the Lady Lancers (2-0) started slow in the first quarter.

Concordia led 18-13 after the quarter as Grace only made one field goal over the final three minutes. Stull scored six points in the frame, including a rare 4-point play after getting fouled on a made 3-pointer.

The Cardinals pushed their lead to seven early in the second quarter, but Grace’s defense tightened up to end the half.

The Lady Lancers went on a quick 6-0 run to tie the game, and a 3-pointer in the final minute from Maddie Ryman made the score 26-26 at halftime.

Kiersten Poor started the third quarter on a tear, ripping off seven points over the first 2:06 of action to propel Grace to a 33-26 lead.

But the Cardinals battled back and trailed by just one at 43-42 as the teams entered the final quarter.

The fourth quarter belonged to Grace. The Lady Lancers scored at will in the frame, pouring in 26 points in the 10 minute-session to gain separation from Concordia.

Stull was a force in the fourth. The senior erupted for 13 points in the fourth quarter, including a pair of 3-pointers early in the quarter to give Grace a boost.

Stull then iced the game late with five free throws over the final 35 seconds of regulation as Grace coasted to a win.

Stull’s 26 points came with four 3-pointers. She shot 8-of-9 from the foul line and grabbed five rebounds.

Poor finished with 14 points, 5 boards, 2 assists and 2 steals, and Kamryn Hostetler amassed 7 points, 7 assists, 4 steals and 4 rebounds with just one turnover.

Ryman scored 14 points off the bench to go along with four rebounds and three steals, and Kaylie Warble had six points and six boards.

After shooting just 29 percent from the floor before halftime, Grace’s shooting recovered nicely to shoot 48 percent in the second half.

Concordia was forced into 23 turnovers thanks to 14 steals by Grace.

The Lady Lancers are halfway through their four-game road trip to start the year. Grace plays at Judson on Friday at 8:30 p.m.
