Lawrence, three others claim IBCA Player of the Week awards

Nolan, Brady and Hein join Winchester sophomore as honorees for Nov. 13-18

Madeline Lawrence posted triple-doubles in a pair of victories for the Winchester girls basketball team, and the Golden Falcons’ sophomore headlines a group of four winners in the IBCA/Subway Player of the Week program.

Lawrence is joined by Marquette Catholic junior Emma Nolan, Lawrence North junior Trinity Brady and Vincennes Lincoln junior Alison Hein as honorees for Nov. 13-18 in the recognition program coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

Nolan is the recipient for District 1. Lawrence and Brady share the award for District 2. Hein is the honoree for District 3.

The 6-0 Lawrence notched two triple-doubles in propelling Winchester to its fifth and sixth victories of the season. First, she scored 23 points with 12 rebounds and 10 assists in a 74-45 triumph over Trip. Lawrence followed by tallying 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists as the Golden Falcons defeated Jay County 59-55. For the two games, Lawrence sank 16-of-23 shots, 1-of-2 3-pointers and 8-of-11 free throws.

Nolan, Brady and Hein each had one 30-point game while keying her respective team to a 2-0 week.

The 6-2 Nolan opened with 21 points, nine rebounds, one assist and one block to help Marquette Catholic to a 77-60 victory over Oregon-Davis. That effort included 19 second-half points. Nolan then produced 30 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and one block as the Blazers (4-1) topped Andrean 74-23. Over both games, she was 23-of-31 from the field, 1-of-1 on 3-pointers and 4-of-5 on free throws.

Brady averaged 27.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in lifting Lawrence North (5-0) to a perfect week. The 5-10 forward tallied 17 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals as the Wildcats ran past Anderson 75-43. Brady followed with a career-high 38 points – including 22 points in a seven-minute span late in the third quarter and early in the fourth – while adding eight rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 68-58 victory over Indianapolis Tindley. She hit 20-of-32 shots, 1-of-7 3-pointers and 14-of-16 free throws over both games.

The 6-1 Hein averaged 24.5 points and 11.5 rebounds to lead Vincennes Lincoln (3-2) to a pair of triumphs. She started with 18 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and four blocks as the Alices posted a 55-30 decision over Pike Central. Hein completed her week with a career-best 31 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two blocks in a 56-35 victory over Evansville Mater Dei. In the two games, Hein was 11-of-23 from the field, 1-of-3 on 3-pointers and 24-of-29 from the line.

This is the 10th season for the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Week program and the sixth season it is presented by Subway Restaurants of Indiana, a banner sponsor of the IBCA. Subway, in its seventh season as an IBCA sponsor, encourages athletes to “train hard and eat fresh.”

Player of the Week winners are chosen each week from each of the IHSAA’s three districts. Girls’ winners will be chosen from now through the week following Feb. 24. Boys’ winners will be chosen starting in three weeks and through the week following March 24.
