Goalkeeper made 13 saves Saturday to extend shutout, unbeaten streaks
Sophomore women’s soccer goalkeeper Katie Baer is the Maple Leaf Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 16.
Baer made 15 saves without allowing a goal last week, including five saves in the overtime period alone of Saturday’s win over Rio Grande. The Maple Leafs and Red Storm played to a 0-0 stalemate in which Baer made 13 saves, pushing her scoreless streak to 220 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal. GC also topped Holy Cross 2-0 on Tuesday.
A native of Villa Ridge, Missouri, Baer backstops a Goshen defense that has allowed one goal in its last six games, setting the stage for a six-match unbeaten streak that matches the longest in school history. She has 56 saves this season, good for seventh in the NAIA, and is allowing 0.54 goals per game for 17th in the NAIA.
Baer and the Maple Leafs are off this week before opening conference play against Bethel at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26.
The Maple Leaf Athlete of the Week is selected each week by a panel of Goshen College administrators, coaches, media and faculty.
