SOUTH BEND, Ind. – For the second consecutive season, Indiana University South Bend volleyball saw at least one of its players named to the AVCA NAIA Mideast All-Region team. Junior Hannah Marchand garnered first team honors while sophomore McKenzie Powell grabbed an honorable mention nod, announced the AVCA on Thursday, Dec. 5.

Both Marchand and Powell helped the Titans reach arguably its best season in program history during 2019. IU South Bend concluded the regular-season at No. 2 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference and appeared in the league’s tournament championship for the second time in history. The NAIA National Tournament appearance was also the second time in the history of the program to go along with a program-best 22 victories.
In her first year wearing the Crimson & Cream, Marchand became the first Titan player to be named CCAC Co-Player of the Year after registering a team-high 459 kills which places her 10th in the career record books and second behind Ashley McClintock in a single season. The middle blocker’s kills also sits No. 22 amongst the nation’s best and second against all league players.
Powell had a season to remember, becoming the all-time assist leader with 2,093 total assists. The Rolling Praire, Ind. native was tabbed All-CCAC First Team with Marchand after dishing out an IUSB single-season record 1,173 total assists. The sophomore averaged 9.0 assists per set which ranked second amongst conference opponents and 26th in the NAIA.
The Titan pair join eight other CCAC players on the AVCA teams this season and three other IUSB players in the history of the program. Sarah Allison garnered first team honors in 2018 while McClintock grabbed honors in three consecutive seasons from 2015 (HM), 2016 (1st) and 2017 (1st). Janelle Rehlander earned an honorable mention nod back in 2017.
