Marian Claims 2016-2017 Crossroads League All-Sports Trophy

INDIANAPOLIS – Marian University secured the Crossroads League All-Sports Championship during the 2016-2017 year, earning the first-ever such honor for the Knights after claiming six-of-15 CL team championships throughout the year.

Marian won Crossroads League Championships in men’s cross country, men’s tennis, women’s basketball, men’s track and field, women’s track and field and softball and finished top-four in the league standings in 13-of-15 sports. All eight of MU’s women’s programs finished among the top-four of the league.

“I am so excited for all of our coaches and student-athletes,” said MU Athletics Director Steve Downing. “It is a testament to the hard work that they put in all year long. We have been working towards this award for years and I could not be happier for all of those who were a part of the process.”

The Knights snapped Indiana Wesleyan’s streak of 15-straight All-Sports Championships within the league, which dated back to the 2001-2002 season. MU claimed the honor by earning 121.5 points in the all-sports standings, edging IWU by 1.5 points and Taylor by two points in a competitive race between the three programs.

Marian came within half a point on the men’s and women’s standings of taking the top spot in each as well. MU ended with 52.5 points on the men’s side to finish .5 points behind Taylor for the top mark and claimed 69 points on the women’s side to end .5 points back of Indiana Wesleyan.
