Marian’s Oleksak Repeats as CL Female Athlete of the Year

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League announced its 2020-2021 Female Athlete-of-the-Year honor on Thursday, with Marian’s soccer and track standout, Erin Oleksak, claiming the recognition for a second-straight year.

Oleksak continued her dominance in both sports for Marian during her second year on campus, opening the 2020-2021 year by helping the MU women’s soccer program to a 21-3 overall record, a CL Championship and an appearance in the NAIA National Tournament Semifinals. Oleksak closed the season fifth in the NAIA with 21 goals scored, seventh with 52 total points and 16th with 10 assists.

Those stats led to Oleksak being heralded as a First-Team NAIA All-American for a second-straight year, while also collecting Crossroads League Player-of-the-Year honors and First-Team All-Crossroads League recognition.

“We all saw how special Erin was her freshman year, but to come back and do it again after the competition knows you, really shows the level she is on,” said MU women’s soccer head coach Gary Yohe. “Competing for championships, conference and national, is something she will compete for during her career at Marian. It really shows her character and commitment when she is able to be a big part of two successful programs, while still getting it done in the classroom.”

Oleksak just kept rolling throughout the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons, piling up seven NAIA All-American performances, 10 All-Crossroads League efforts and five individual CL event championships. The sophomore won three events and placed top-three in five events during the outdoor CL Championship to help the Knights secure the team crown.

“Erin is incredibly competitive and passionate about excellence in all she does,” said Marian head track and field coach Mike Holman. “Obviously gifted, but works tirelessly to be her best while always putting team first! Erin is a generational athlete that makes all around her better.”

The Crossroads League Female Student-Athlete of the Year award is nominated and voted on by the 10 Athletic Directors from the Crossroads League and announced each summer.
