Maryland and Michigan Earn Weekly Women’s Basketball Awards

Terrapins’ Shakira Austin and Wolverines’ Hallie Thome are this week’s honorees

 

Player of the Week

Hallie Thome, Michigan

C – Sr. – Chagrin Falls, Ohio – Chagrin Falls

• Averaged 21.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game with a .750 field-goal percentage and two double-doubles last week as the Wolverines won in overtime against Northwestern before falling at ninth-ranked Maryland

• Registered 25 points (11-16 FG) and 10 rebounds in Sunday’s loss at Maryland

• Scored 17 points (7-8 FG), grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked three shots in the Jan. 8 comeback victory over Northwestern

• A two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree in 2016-17 and 2017-18

• Earns her second career Player of the Week award

• Last Michigan Player of the Week: Katelynn Flaherty (Jan. 22, 2018)

Big Ten Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll

Megan Gustafson, Sr., F/C, IOWA: Tallied 20.0 points, 12.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game with a .621 field goal percentage and two double-doubles in Iowa’s two games last week

Taylor Mikesell, Fr., G, MD: Averaged 16.5 points and 4.0 assists per game with a .467 three-point percentage last week, including a team-high 17 points in Sunday’s win over Michigan

Sidney Cooks, So., F, MSU: Scored a career-high 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting while adding three blocks and three assists in MSU’s win over No. 18/20 Minnesota on Jan. 9

 

Freshman of the Week

Shakira Austin, Maryland

F – Fredericksburg, Va. – Riverdale Baptist

• Averaged 10.0 points, 12.5 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game with a double-double last week to help the No. 9 Terrapins defeat Nebraska and Michigan

• Approached a triple-double on Sunday against Michigan, finishing with 13 points, 15 rebounds and seven blocks

• Has had at least 15 rebounds in three games and seven blocks in three games this season

• Collects her fifth Freshman of the Week award
