Maryland, Northwestern and Purdue Earn Weekly Women’s Soccer Awards

Terrapins’ Rachel Egyed, Wildcats’ Brenna Lovera and Julietta Thron, and Boilermakers’ Marisa Bova are this week’s honorees

 

Offensive Player of the Week

Brenna Lovera, Northwestern

F – Sr. – Milford, Mich. – Milford

• Scored all three goals for Northwestern last weekend to help the nationally-ranked Wildcats earn home victories over Loyola Marymount and Bowling Green

• Tallied the lone goal in NU’s 1-0 win over LMU on Sept. 6

• Netted both goals in the Wildcats’ 2-0 victory over Bowling Green on Sunday, becoming the first NU student in more than a year to score twice in a game (Madi Kennel at Illinois State – Aug. 26, 2017)

• Earns her first career Offensive Player of the Week award

• Last Northwestern Offensive Player of the Week: Addie Steiner (Sept. 3, 2014)

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Julietta Thron, Northwestern

D – Fr. – Caldwell, N.J. – Dwight-Englewood

• Starting fullback who helped Wildcats to a pair of shutout wins at home last weekend against Loyola Marymount and Bowling Green

• Picked up her first two collegiate points last weekend, recording an assist in both NU victories

• Part of a Northwestern squad that has posted six consecutive shutouts and has not allowed a goal in 611:47, the second-longest shutout streak in program history

• Garners her first career Defensive Player of the Week honor

• Last Northwestern Defensive Player of the Week: Kayla Sharples (Aug. 21, 2018)

 

Goalkeeper of the Week

Rachel Egyed, Maryland

GK – Sr. – Clifton, N.J. – Clifton

• Played all 220 minutes in goal for Maryland last week, helping the Terrapins earn double-overtime draws against visiting UCF (which was earning votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll) and George Washington

• Made a combined 15 saves last week, registering eight stops in the 1-1 draw with UCF and seven saves in a scoreless draw with GW (her second shutout of the season)

• 2016-17 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar

• Three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection (2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18)

• Receives her first career Goalkeeper of the Week accolade

• Last Maryland Goalkeeper of the Week: N/A (new award for 2018)

 

Freshman of the Week

Marisa Bova, Purdue

GK – Hartland, Wis. – Arrowhead Union

• Turned in complete-game efforts in goal for Purdue last week, leading the Boilermakers to home wins over No. 24 Louisville and Western Michigan

• Made her collegiate debut in the Louisville contest, making six saves, including three in the final 20 minutes, helping the Boilermakers to their first win over a ranked opponent since Aug. 28, 2009 (3-2 at No. 6 Texas A&M)

• Added three saves against Western Michigan to earn her first collegiate shutout

• Collects her first career Freshman of the Week award

• Last Purdue Freshman of the Week: Kylie Hase (Oct. 3, 2017)
