MATT’S MATCHUPS 2020-21 HOOPS – STATE FINALS

Leo’s last-second win over Saint Joseph prevented me from going perfect (7-1 for 88 percent) during the semistate round. Going into the state finals, my overall record is 319-80, which keeps me at 80 percent for the season.

CLASS 1A

Kouts (29-2) vs. Barr-Reeve (28-2) (10 a.m.): Matt Baker tallied 10 points in the No. 3 Mustangs’ 86-70 win over Southwood. Hagen Knepp recorded 15 points in the top-ranked Vikings’ 72-25 win over No. 8 Indianapolis Tindley. Matt’s pick: Barr-Reeve 68, Kouts 61.

CLASS 2A

Fort Wayne Blackhawk (27-3) vs. Parke Heritage (27-3) (1:30 p.m.): Callan Wood registered 20 points for the top-ranked Braves in their 88-61 win over No. 8 Blackford. Riley Ferguson racked up 13 points in the No. 5 Wolves’ 40-36 win over Southridge. Matt’s pick: Fort Wayne Blackhawk 75, Parke Heritage 62.

CLASS 3A

Leo (24-4) vs. Silver Creek (24-4) (5 p.m.): D.J. Allen scored 13 points in the No. 9 Lions’ 61-59 upset of No. 5 Saint Joseph. Kooper Jacobi managed 15 points for the No. 2 Dragons in a 54-46 win over No. 6 Guerin Catholic. Matt’s pick: Silver Creek 54, Leo 49.

CLASS 4A

Carmel (25-2) vs. Lawrence North (28-2) (8:30 p.m.): The No. 2 Greyhounds rolled to a 63-49 win over No. 3 Lawrence North on February 4. Connor Gioia’s 16 points lifted Carmel to a 53-50 overtime win over No. 10 Gary West. Donaven McCulley had 15 points in the Wildcats’ 54-52 win over Bloomington South. Matt’s pick: Carmel 60, Lawrence North 57.
