It proved to be another average performance as I went 18-5 (78 percent) last week. This leaves me with an overall record of 123-32, which is good for 79 percent for the season.



Bremen (6-4) at Culver (3-6): The Lions roared to a 66-50 win over Culver last season. Dawson Hickman managed just four points in Bremen’s 47-32 loss to Elkhart. Marquez Anderson recorded two points in the Cavaliers’ 59-32 loss to Triton. Matt’s pick: Bremen 50, Culver 38.

New Prairie (8-4) at Argos (8-3): The Cougars cruised to a 61-37 win over Argos a year ago. Jacob Meyers was limited to six points in New Prairie’s 81-55 loss to Riley. J.J. Morris notched 14 points in the Dragons’ 39-11 win over Oregon-Davis. Matt’s pick: New Prairie 63, Argos 60.

Oregon-Davis (5-4) at Glenn (9-1): The Falcons soared to a 79-13 win over Oregon-Davis last year. Dylan Murphy rolled up 24 points in the Bobcats’ 64-31 win over Winamac. Jake Frankiewicz finished with four points in Glenn’s 66-51 loss to No. 6 (Class 3A) Saiint Joseph. Matt’s pick: Glenn 66, Oregon-Davis 48.

Triton (7-2) at LaVille (6-4):  The Lancers suffered a 41-40 loss to Triton a season ago. John Gardner’s 12 points lifted the Trojans against Culver. Ayden Doyle accounted for six points in LaVille’s 52-36 win over Knox.  Matt’s pick: Triton 52, LaVille 51.


Concord (2-5) at Elkhart (6-7): The Minutemen dropped a 92-61 decision to Elkhart in the 1970 Elkhart sectional opener. Payton Fish notched 15 points in Concord’s 50-45 win against Plymouth. Luke Teich came up with 11 points for the Lions against Bremen. Matt’s pick: Elkhart 72, Concord 56.

Jimtown (3-7) at Goshen (4-7): The Jimmies held on for a 43-42 win against Goshen a year ago. Johntu Reed mustered just four points for Jimtown in an 87-36 loss to Penn. Quinn Bechtel scored 16 points in the RedHawks’ 56-52 loss to East Noble. Matt’s pick: Goshen 48, Jimtown 41.

Mishawaka (6-1) at Clay (2-11): The Cavemen claimed a 62-50 win over Clay last season. DaVonn Parker had three points in Mishawaka’s 60-42 win over Wawasee. Antwon Gregory registered 23 points in the Colonials’ 70-64 loss to LaPorte. Matt’s pick: Mishawaka 64, Clay 59.

Northridge (7-3) at Penn (4-5): The Raiders needed overtime to earn a 57-55 win over Penn last year. Sam Smith poured in 20 points in Northridge’s 66-58 win against NorthWood. Casey Shultz chipped in eight points for the Kingsmen in a 44-36 loss to Chesterton. Matt’s pick: Northridge 45, Penn 40.


Clay (2-12, 0-5 NIC) at Riley (8-4, 4-1 NIC): The Wildcats clawed past Clay, 68-45, in their previous meeting. Nick Wade was limited to two points in the Colonials’ 64-63 loss to Mishawaka. Jackson Copley recorded 11 points for Riley against New Prairie. Matt’s pick: Riley 79, Clay 59.

Jimtown (3-8, 1-4 NIC) at Washington (2-7, 1-4 NIC): The Panthers suffered a 55-54 loss to Washington during the 2019-20 season. Darrian Gillespie came up with three points in the Jimmies’ 49-32 loss to Goshen. Ty’shaun Grundy mustered two points in Washington’ 50-34 loss to Valparaiso. Matt’s pick: Washington 53, Jimtown 46.


Concord (2-6, 1-1 NLC) at Warsaw (7-6, 3-0 NLC): The Minutemen dropped a 56-36 decision to Warsaw a year ago. Jesse Davidson registered 11 points in Concord’s 77-40 loss to Elkhart. Caleb Sands recorded eight points in the Tigers’ 48-38 win at Goshen. Matt’s pick: Warsaw 54, Concord 40.

Elkhart (7-7, 2-4 NIC) at Saint Joseph (8-2, 4-1 NIC): The No. 6 (Class 3A) Indians came up on the short end of a 59-50 contest to Elkhart in the 1970-71 campaign.  Rodney Gates chipped in four points for the Lions against Concord.  Joe McGuire accounted for two points for Saint Joseph against Glenn. Matt’s pick: Saint Joseph 73, Elkhart 60.

Goshen (5-7, 1-1 NLC) at NorthWood (8-3, 2-1 NLC): The Panthers pounced past Goshen, 75-56, a year ago. Isaac Sawatzky ended with five points for the RedHawks against Jimtown. Ben Vincent registered 15 points for NorthWood against Northridge. Matt’s pick: NorthWood 62, Goshen 50.

Marian (8-2, 2-2 NIC) at Penn (4-6, 2-2 NIC): The No. 7 (Class 3A) Knights crowned Penn, 73-56, last season. Jackson Price had six points for Marian in its 58-34 win over Clay. Jayden Doster added nine points in the Kingsmen’s 72-64 loss to Northridge. Matt’s pick: Marian 58, Penn 54.

Plymouth (2-12, 0-3 NLC) at Wawasee (3-6, 0-3 NLC): The Warriors edged Plymouth, 48-46, a season ago. Michael Sheely managed seven points in the Pilgrims’ 73-56 loss to Elkhart. Collin Roberson’s 11 points were not enough for Wawasee against Mishawaka. Matt’s pick: Wawasee 41, Plymouth 36.


Glenn (10-1) at Triton (8-2): The Falcons slipped past Triton, 51-50, on January 8. Carter Yung added 19 points for Glenn in its 68-30 win against Oregon-Davis. Tyson Yates recorded 18 points for the Trojans in a 68-40 win over LaVille. Matt’s pick: Glenn 57, Triton 55.

New Prairie (9-4) at Bremen (7-4): The Cougars cruised to a 62-42 win over Bremen on December 11. Grady Lapczynski tallied 14 points for New Prairie in a 49-42 win against Argos. Carson Miller racked up 12 points for the Lions in a 37-31 win overCulver. Matt’s pick: New Prairie 60. Bremen 54.


Argos (8-4) at Culver (3-7): The Dragons downed Culver, 30-18, in the 2020 Class 1A sectional opener. Jake Stults had seven points for Argos against New Prairie. Shane Shuman ended with four points for the Cavaliers against Bremen. Matt’s pick: Argos 43, Culver 31.

Oregon-Davis (5-5) at LaVille (6-5): The Lancers rolled to a 66-36 win against Oregon-Davis last year. Jared Bryan scored five points for the Bobcats against Glenn. Andrew Dill mustered only two points for LaVille against Triton. Matt’s pick: LaVille 51, Oregon-Davis 39.


Chesterton (12-1) at Adams (12-0): The Trojans marched to a 68-56 win over No. 5 (Class 4A) Adams a season ago. Charlie Eaton netted 13 points in Chesterton’s 46-38 win over No. 8 (Class 4A) Crown Point. Tommy Snider scored four points in the Eagles’ 67-47 win over Gary 21st Century.  Matt’s pick: Adams 58, Chesterton 57.

Concord (3-6) at Jimtown (3-9): The Jimmies claimed a 42-34 win over Concord last year. Andres Dixon chipped in eight points in the Minutemen’s 37-33 win at Warsaw. Hunter Konrath had five points for Jimtown against Goshen. Matt’s pick: Concord 41, Jimtown 37.

Fort Wayne North (4-8) at Washington (3-7): The Legends posted an 86-74 win over Washington in the 2012-13 season. Jordan Green registered 17 points for Fort Wayne North in a 107-61 loss to No. 2 (Class 4A) Homestead. Tyler Davis managed two points in the Panthers’ 80-56 loss to Adams.  Matt’s pick: Fort Wayne North 72, Washington 69.

Fort Wayne Wayne (4-10) at Elkhart (7-8): Jevon Lewis recorded 10 points in the Generals’ 58-55 loss to Fort Wayne Northrop. Jaylen Holmes accounted for two points for the Lions against Concord. Matt’s pick: Elkhart 70, Fort Wayne Wayne 58.

Northridge (8-3, 1-1 NLC) at Mishawaka (7-1, 2-0 NLC): The Raiders squeezed by Mishawaka, 52-51, in the 2014-15 campaign. Trevor Brown added five points for Northridge against Penn. Tommy Harringer mustered two points for the Cavemen against Clay. Matt’s pick: Northridge 64, Mishawaka 61.

Warsaw (7-7) at LaPorte (3-10): The Tigers clawed past LaPorte, 53-48, during the 2015-16 season. Judah Simfukwe ended with 12 points for Warsaw against Concord.  R.J. Anglin’s 16 points were not enough in the Slicers’ 96-68 loss to Michigan City. Matt’s pick: Warsaw 52, LsPorte 40.

West Noble (6-5) at Wawasee (4-6): The Chargers suffered a 53-44 loss to Wawasee a year ago. Austin Cripe’s 20 points helped West Noble to a 55-51 win over Fremont. Ethan Carey finished with 11 points in the Warriors’ 46-39 win over Plymouth. Matt’s pick: West Noble 44, Wawasee 43.


Riley (9-4) at Culver Academy (2-1) (Noon): The Eagles flew past Riley, 62-41, in the 2020 Class 4A Michigan City sectional opener. Blake Wesley added 13 points in the Wildcats’ 78-44 win over Clay. Deandre Francis contributed 19 points in Culver Academy’s 59-54 win over Indianapolis Home School. Matt’s pick: Riley 66, Culver Academy 58.

Lighthouse CPA (3-9) vs. Riley (9-4) (2:30 p.m.): The Wildcats were a 79-62 winner over Lighthouse CPA last season. Reggie Holloway scored nine points in the Lions’ 83-51 loss to Adams. Klay Coleman finished with 11 points for Riley against Clay. Matt’s pick: Riley 81, Lighthouse CPA 62.


Glenn (11-1) vs. New Prairie (10-4) (6 p.m. at LaVille): The Falcons earned a 50-46 win at New Prairie on January 7. Brycen Hannah netted 24 points in Glenn’s 62-46 win over Triton. Rylan McBride tallied 10 points in the Cougars’ 46-33 win at Bremen. Matt’s pick: Glenn 57, New Prairie 53.
