The regular season is closing on a solid note as I went 13-2 (87 percent) last week. With two weeks left until the post-season, my overall record is 83-23, which leaves me at 78 percent for the year.


Culver Academy (2-4) at Saint Joseph (2-5): The Eagles soared to a 42-7 win over Saint Joseph a year ago. Eli Pack had 17 carries for 153 yards with a score in Culver Academy’s 43-6 win over Woodlan. Matt Eck tossed for 167 yards with a touchdown in the Indians’ 49-20 loss to Penn. Matt’s pick: Saint Joseph 25, Culver Academy 19.

Glenn (3-4, 2-1 NIC) at Clay (1-6, 0-3 NIC): The Falcons rolled to a 35-6 win over Clay a season ago. Aden Johnson went 10-of-20 for 111 yards with a touchdown in Glenn’s 17-14 loss at LaVille. Jamari Herring managed just 30 yards through the air in the Colonials’ 49-0 loss to Angola. Matt’s pick: Glenn 20, Clay 6.

Jimtown (4-2) at Adams (3-4) (TCU School Field): The Jimmies are meeting Adams for the first time on the gridiron. Sam Garner returned a punt 49 yards for a touchdown in Jimtown’s 45-7 win over Washington. Gavin Pulling missed the Eagles’ 51-0 loss to Elkhart with a concussion. Matt’s pick: Jimtown 34, Adams 15.

New Prairie (5-2, 2-1 NIC) at Penn (3-4, 1-2 NIC): The Cougars held on for a 21-17 win over Penn last season. Benjamin Fronk converted a 42-yard field goal in New Prairie’s 38-0 win over Riley. Zachary David came up with five receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown for the Kingsmen against Saint Joseph. Matt’s pick: Penn 33, New Prairie 17.

Riley (3-4, 2-1 NIC) at Bremen (5-2, 2-1 NIC): The Wildcats clawed past Bremen, 28-7, last year. Austin Karczewski had 49 yards through the air for Riley against New Prairie. Grant Kauffman rambled for 78 yards with a score in the Lions’ 39-14 win over Prairie Heights. Matt’s pick: Bremen 29, Riley 22.

Washington (1-6) at Gary West (2-4): The Panthers posted a 48-6 win over Gary West during the 2014 campaign. Jeremy Johnson accounted for 102 yards on the ground for Washington against Jimtown. Andre Johnson ran 27 yards for a touchdown and came up with an interception in the Cougars’ 36-6 win over East Chicago Central. Matt’s pick: Washington 16, Gary West 8.


Concord (4-2, 2-2 NLC) at Northridge (5-1, 4-1 NLC): The Minutemen blanked No. 10 (Class 4A) Northridge, 10-0, a year ago. Titus Hackworth tallied 19 carries for 90 yards in Concord’s 21-14 overtime victory over No. 4 (Class 2A) Eastside. Dom Crowder ran nine times for 67 yards with two scores in the Raiders’ 38-17 win over Goshen. Matt’s pick: Northridge 25, Concord 23.

Harrison (West Lafayette) (4-3) at Goshen (1-3): The Raiders are making their first visit to Goshen’s Foreman Field. Tyler Knoy ran five times for 119 yards and two scores in Harrison’s 42-0 win over McCutcheon. Colin Turner had 152 yards passing with two touchdowns for the RedHawks against Northridge. Matt’s pick: Harrison 43, Goshen 14.

Warsaw (6-1, 5-0 NLC) at NorthWood (2-3, 2-2 NLC): The Tigers claimed a 35-14 win over NorthWood a season ago. Thomas Greene rumbled 10 times for 76 yards and a score in Warsaw’s 42-17 win over Wawasee. Ethan Evers raced 40 yards for a touchdown in the Panthers’ 30-16 loss to Mishawaka. Matt’s pick: Warsaw 35, NorthWood 26.

Wawasee (2-5, 0-5 NLC) at Mishawaka (3-3, 3-1 NLC): The Warriors and Mishawaka are playing football for the first time. Robert Schmucker racked up 11 tackles for Wawasee against Warsaw. Drew Mason ran four yards for a score for the Cavemen against NorthWood. Matt’s pick: Mishawaka 38, Wawasee 10.


Lake Central (1-6, 0-5 DAC) at Merrillville (5-1, 3-0 DAC): The No. 6 (Class 6A) Pirates were a 41-21 winner over Lake Central last season. Xavier Williams managed five rushes for 32 yards for the Indians against Chesterton. Marcus Hardy came up with four catches for 128 yards in Merrillville’s 45-28 loss to No. 1 (Class 3A) Indianapolis Bishop Chatard. Matt’s pick: Merrillville 50, Lake Central 6.

LaPorte (2-5. 2-3 DAC) at Michigan City (4-1, 2-1 DAC): The No. 7 (Class 5A) Wolves slipped past LaPorte, 7-3, during the 2019 regular season, while the Slicers rebounded for a 14-10 win over Michigan City in the Class 5A sectional semifinals. Colin Bergquist rambled 36 times for 193 yards for the Slicers against Crown Point. Gio Laurent threw for 143 yards and ran for two touchdowns in the Wolves’ 28-7 win over Portage. Matt’s pick: Michigan City 30, LaPorte 13.

Portage (2-5, 1-4 DAC) at Valparaiso (3-0, 2-0 DAC): The No. 3 (Class 5A) Vikings cruised to a 46-7 win against Portage in their previous meeting. Terrell Craft tallied 13 rushes for 104 yards for the Indians against Michigan City. Tommy Burbee exploded for 310 yards rushing with three scores in Valparaiso’s 30-21 win over Chesterton. Matt’s pick: Valparaiso 40, Portage 12.
