MATT’S MATCHUPS – 2022-23 HOOPS – VOLUME ONE

I will look to improve on last year’s record of 338-98, which was good for 78 percent. Once again, I will focus on Northern Indiana and Northern Lakes Conference games during the regular season. Records are 2021-22 final marks unless noted.

TUESDAY

Fairfield (15-9) at Wawasee (9-15): The Falcons slipped by Wawasee, 44-42, last season. Tyson Frey accumulated 135 points in 2021-22 for Fairfield. Maddux Everingham contributed 197 points for the Warriors. Matt’s pick: Wawasee 45, Fairfield 39.

LaPorte (11-12) at Riley (11-12): The Wildcats clawed past LaPorte, 46-40, last year. Kyle Kirkham tallied 13.8 points a contest for the Slicers. Marvin Schindler came up with 10.4 points per game for Riley. Matt’s pick: Riley 60, LaPorte 48.

Northridge (13-11) at Elkhart (6-17): The Raiders posted a 45-36 win over Elkhart a year ago. Nolan Bales managed 192 points for Northridge. Erick Nocentelli contributed 11.3 points a game for the Lions. Matt’s pick: Elkhart 57, Northridge 53.

Prairie Heights (13-9) at Concord (13-11): The Minutemen cruised to a 66-46 win against Prairie Heights a season ago. Chase Bachelor amassed 21 points per contest for the Panthers. Jesse Davidson chipped in 19 points last year for Concord. Matt’s pick: Prairie Heights 49, Concord 47.

WEDNESDAY

Bremen (12-11) at Argos (17-6): The Lions claimed a 52-35 win over Argos last year. Baylor Orcutt racked up 79 points a season ago for Bremen. J.J. Morris averaged 16 points per game for the Dragons. Matt’s pick: Argos 55, Bremen 46.

Glenn (24-2) at Plymouth (6-17): The Pilgrims suffered a 55-38 loss to Glenn in last season’s opener. Brycen Hannah came up with 17 points a contest for the Falcons. Easton Strain managed 13 points a game for Plymouth. Matt’s pick: Glenn 61, Plymouth 47.

NorthWood (25-3) at Lakeland (5-18): The Panthers roared to a 78-31 victory over Lakeland last season. Cade Brenner racked up 17.1 points per game for NorthWood. Christian Troyer ended with 10.5 points per contest for the Lakers. Matt’s pick: NorthWood 61, Lakeland 45.

Tippecanoe Valley (14-10) at Mishawaka (13-10): Joe Luce replaces Chad Patrick as the Vikings’ floor general. Former Carroll (Flora) boss Bodie Bender takes over for Ron Hecklinski at Mishawaka. Nolan Cumberland came up with 13.1 points a game for Tippecanoe Valley. Arthur Jones contributed 12.7 points per contest for the Cavemen. Matt’s pick: Mishawaka 51, Tippecanoe Valley 49.
