MATT’S MATCHUPS HOOPS 18-19 – VOLUME FIVE

It proved to be another average week as I posted a 19-6 (76 percent) record. This leaves me with an overall mark of 34-10, which is good for 77 percent.

DECEMBER 4

Bremen (1-1) at Glenn (2-1): The Lions are looking to make amends for a 48-38 loss to Glenn last season. Brooks Feldman poured in 15 points in Bremen’s 55-34 win over South Central. Noah Abrell tallied eight points in the Falcons’ 88-13 win over Oregon-Davis. Matt’s pick: Glenn 52, Bremen 46.

Clay (1-2) at Penn (2-0): The Kingsmen crowned Clay, 70-60, a year ago. Robert Allen came up with eight points in the Colonials’ 49-44 loss to South Bend Trinity. Noah Applegate contributed 18 points in Penn’s 71-51 win over Crown Point. Matt’s pick: Penn 73, Clay 54.

Elkhart Central (0-3) at Adams (1-2): The Blazers posted a 58-52 win over Adams last year. Laz Miller scored 20 points in Elkhart Central’s 70-61 loss to Elkhart Memorial. Chuck Worsham finished with 12 points in the Eagles’ 72-66 loss at Fort Wayne Northrop. Matt’s pick: Adams 62, Elkhart Central 51.

Jimtown (0-0) at Washington (2-0): The Panthers roared past Jimtown, 67-36, a season ago. Austin Pearison netted 324 points a season ago for the Jimmies (5-18). Demarrio Henderson chipped in 17 points in Washington’s 59-57 win at LaPorte. Matt’s pick: Washington 70, Jimtown 50.

Marian (1-0) at New Prairie (1-1): The No. 4 (Class 3A) Knights cruised to a 58-39 victory against New Prairie in their last meeting. Jaden Ivey recorded 26 points in Marian’s 74-44 win against Fort Wayne Bishop Luers. Mike Klemczak ended up with 16 points for the Cougars in their 56-52 loss to Plymouth. Matt’s pick: Marian 69, New Prairie 47.

Plymouth (3-1) at Winamac (1-1): The Pilgrims downed Winamac, 47-33, during the 2017-18 campaign. Clay Hilliard’s 19 points were not enough for the Pilgrims in a 67-51 loss at Adams. Calvin Larkin paved the way with 24 points in Winamac’s 58-43 win against Rochester. Matt’s pick: Plymouth 48, Winamac 41.

Saint Joseph (1-1) at Riley (3-0): The No. 7 (Class 4A) Wildcats clawed their way to an 84-55 win at Saint Joseph last season. Alex Mossey racked up 15 points and 10 rebounds in the Indians’ 80-73 loss to Marquette Catholic. Jalen Jennings scored 20 points in Riley’s 62-56 win at Merrillville. Matt’s pick: Riley 71, Saint Joseph 58.

DECEMBER 5

Mishawaka (1-0) at Elkhart Memorial (2-0): The Chargers needed overtime to escape with a 57-55 win at Mishawaka a year ago. Caleb Williams added 11 points for the Cavemen in their 44-39 win against Goshen. Brackton Miller had 11 points for Elkhart Memorial against Elkhart Central. Matt’s pick: Elkhart Memorial 55, Mishawaka 52.

DECEMBER 6

East Noble (3-1) at Northridge (1-2): The Knights crowned Northridge, 55-39, a season ago. Hayden Jones netted 11 points in East Noble’s 41-38 win over Carroll (Fort Wayne). Same Smith registered six points for the Raiders in their 60-45 setback at Westview. Matt’s pick: East Noble 57, Northridge 54.

Westview (3-0) at NorthWood (3-1): The top-ranked (Class 2A) Warriors slipped by NorthWood, 61-55, last year. Charlie Yoder contributed 33 points in Westview’s 86-50 triumph over Churubusco. Ben Vincent scored 14 points in the Panthers’ 51-31 victory over Triton. Matt’s pick: Westview 56, NorthWood 51.
