May to join Lady Lancers as assistant coach

WINONA LAKE, Ind. – One of the best players in Grace’s softball history is joining the Lady Lancers’ coaching staff next year.

Clarissa May (Knight) graduated last year as a decorated All-American infielder. She finished her stellar four-year career as the program’s all-time hits leader, racking up 275 hits from 2014-17.

“This opportunity is a dream come true for me,” May said. “The first time I helped run a softball camp, I knew the Lord had placed a special calling in my heart to coach. And now I get to be a part of a coaching staff that has shaped and molded me throughout my career. I am honored to have the chance to give back to a program and school that has given me so much. Once a Lady Lancer, always a Lady Lancer.”

May wrapped up her career No. 1 in doubles (39), No. 2 in triples (16), No. 3 in home runs (8) and No. 4 in stolen bases (53).

She helped Grace to two trips to the NCCAA National Championships, including a fourth-place showing in 2014. Overall, Grace won 115 games over her four years, averaging 28 victories per season.

“Clarissa brings a multitude of wonderful qualities to the Lancer Softball coaching staff. Her heart for the Lord, work ethic, selflessness, determination and willingness to learn will allow her to be a successful coach,” said Grace head coach Nora Reece. “I am blessed to be able to mentor Clarissa in her transition from player to coach.”
