McNeil Records First Collegiate Goal In Loss To Marian
UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor scored the first goal of its contest against Marian in the 13th minute, but the Knights responded with five straight tallies to hand the Trojans a 5-1 loss at Turner Stadium on Wednesday evening.
With the defeat, Taylor (0-4-0, 0-3-0 CL) dropped to fifth place in the Cross Division of the Crossroads League.
The Trojans recorded 16 shots, seven of which were on goal, and 12 corner kicks in the match, but were held off the scoreboard after their early tally.
TU dominated play in the first 15 minutes of action, but the Knights quickly assumed control, scoring a pair of goals in 1:10 to take a lead they would not relinquish. Marian (1-2-1, 1-1-1 CL) would add three more goals in the final 45 minutes of play.
Jack McNeil, after spending most of his first three years on Taylor’s JV squad, collected his first goal in a Taylor uniform off a corner kick from Quinn Partain. Partain delivered a perfect strike to McNeil cutting in from the back side, and the senior defender made no mistake, delivering the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.
Joaquin Hansen made another seven saves, increasing his season total to 26.
Taylor will be back at Turner Stadium on Saturday, September 26 when they square off against cross county rival Indiana Wesleyan (1-0-0, 0-0-0 CL). Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
