Southeastern Baseball Places Two on NAIA Honor Roll

KANSAS CITY, Mo.- The National Intercollegiate Athletic Association has released the list of 2019 NAIA Baseball All-Americans. The Southeastern University baseball team featured two players on the national honor roll.

Senior outfielder Manuel Mesa was named to the First Team. Mesa provided an offensive explosion for the Fire in his senior campaign, leading the team in batting average (.409), runs scored (76)  hits (112), triples (7), stolen bases (38), and total bases (183). Mesa’s marks in hits and total bases were both single-season program records.

The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native also belted 21 doubles, 12 home runs, and also held a 36-game hit streak during the season.

The first and second teams are also recognized as ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans by the American Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings Sporting Goods. The ABCA began recognizing All-Americans in 1949 and named the first ABCA NAIA All-America team in 1969.

Senior third baseman Ivan Nunez was selected as an Honorable Mention. Nunez posted a .383 clip at the plate, with 24 doubles, 15 home runs, and a team-best 77 RBIs.

Additionally, the Miami native ended his collegiate career on a 15-game hit streak.

The Fire finished the 2019 season as fifth-place finishers in the Avista-NAIA World Series with a 53-12 overall record.
