Michigan Claims Women’s Gymnastics Regular Season Crown
Wolverines clinch regular season title with win at Big Five meet
ROSEMONT, Ill. – Michigan clinched the regular-season Big Ten Women’s Gymnastics Championship on Saturday after a first-place finish at the Big Five Meet hosted by Elevate the Stage in Toledo, Ohio, to end the season with a 9-0 record in Big Ten competition. The Wolverines finished the event with a team score of 197.950 to earn their fourth straight conference title and sixth overall.
Michigan was followed on Saturday by Minnesota (196.650), Penn State (196.125), Michigan State (195.975) and Maryland (195.325).
The Wolverines were paced by Natalie Wojcik, who tied for first on vault (9.950) and beam (9.925), while claiming the outright title on bars (9.950) en route to the all-around crown with a score of 39.750. Michigan freshman Sierra Brooks claimed the floor title with a score of 9.950. Michigan’s Abby Brenner tied Wojcik for first on vault, while Minnesota’s Lexy Ramler tied Wojcik for first on beam.
Friday’s competition concluded with Nebraska (196.750) finishing in first place, followed by Illinois (196.550), Ohio State (196.475) Iowa (195.725) and Rutgers (193.625).
Nebraska’s Taylor Houchin took home the vault title (9.950), Illinois’ Karen Howell won bars (9.925), and Ohio State’s Ella Hodges claimed the beam crown, while Illinois’ Arayah Simons, Nebraska’s Sierra Hassel and Ohio State’s Claire Gagliardi all tied for the floor title with a score of 9.900. Houchin also claimed the all-around title with a final score of 39.450.
The 2020 Big Ten Women’s Gymnastics Championships will be held Saturday, March 21, at Ohio State’s Covelli Center in Columbus, Ohio. BTN will provide live coverage of Session One (12 p.m. ET) and Session Two (5:30 p.m. ET).
