Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio State Earn Weekly Women’s Soccer Awards

are this week’s honorees

 

Offensive Player of the Week

April Bockin, Minnesota

F – Jr. – Eden Prairie, Minn. – Eden Prairie

• Registered one goal and five assists last week to help the Golden Gophers to a win over Michigan State and a draw against Michigan

• Scored a goal and tied the Big Ten record with four assists Sunday against the Spartans, matching the conference mark set by Penn State’s Ali Krieger (against Bucknell on Sept. 17, 2003) and Minnesota’s Simone Kolander (against Stetson on Aug. 22, 2014)

• Added one assist and took eight shots in the Gophers’ 2-2 draw last Friday against Michigan

• Earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition in 2016

• Receives her first career Offensive Player of the Week honor

• Last Minnesota Offensive Player of the Week: Sydney Squires (Aug. 29, 2017)

Defensive Player of the Week

Devon Kerr, Ohio State

GK – Jr. – Barrie, Ontario – Bill Crothers Secondary

• Posted two shutouts in as many outings last week, leading Ohio State to a pair of Big Ten road wins at Nebraska and Iowa

• Made 10 saves in the two games last week, including a season-high seven stops in the 1-0 win over the Huskers on Friday

• Selected for Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2016

• Earns her first career Defensive Player of the Week award

• Last Ohio State Defensive Player of the Week: Rachel Middleman (Sept. 10, 2012)

Freshman of the Week

Sarah Stratigakis, Michigan

M – Woodbridge, Ontario – Bill Crothers Secondary

• Factored into three of Michigan’s four goals last week with one goal and two assists, as the Wolverines earned an overtime win at No. 9/10 Wisconsin and a draw at Minnesota

• Scored the game-tying goal with 11 seconds left in regulation at Minnesota after registering an assist on the Wolverines’ first goal

• Credited with the assist on Michigan’s game-winning goal in overtime Sunday at Wisconsin, giving the Wolverines their first win over a top-10 opponent since Sept. 14, 2014 (at Wisconsin)

• Receives her second Freshman of the Week honor
