Minnesota and Penn State Standouts Honored as Three Stars

Golden Gopher LaFontaine posts .985 save percentage and a shutout to earn First Star

 

First Star

Jack LaFontaine, Minnesota

G – Sr. – Mississauga, Ont.

  • Backstopped the then-No. 4/4 Golden Gophers to their fourth sweep of the season, picking up a pair of wins on the road at then-No. 5/5 Michigan and extending his personal winning streak to 10 games
  • Recorded his second shutout of the season on Wednesday after tying his season high with 34 saves, stopping 67 of 68 shots throughout the entirety of the series
  • Led the nation last weekend in save percentage (.985) and goals-against average (0.50) among goalies with more than one appearance
  • Earns his third career weekly award and his first top weekly honor

  • Finished the weekend series with four points, tying for first in the league, and averaged 2.00 points per game
  • Sits atop the Big Ten and ranks second in the NCAA among active career goal scorers with 46
  • Claims his second career weekly honor and first of the season

Third Star

Ben Meyers, Minnesota

F – So. – Delano, Minn.

 

  • Posted three assists and a goal, tying for the Big Ten lead, as then-No. 4/4 Minnesota picked up its fourth-straight sweep to open the season
  • Played a part in all three goals in the Golden Gophers’ 3-1 win against then-No. 5/5 Michigan on Tuesday, tying his single-game career high for points
  • Added an assist in the 4-0 win on Wednesday to extend his point streak to six games and tie his career long
  • Earns his first career weekly award
