Minnesota, Nebraska, Penn State and Wisconsin Earn Weekly Volleyball Awards

Minnesota’s Samantha Seliger-Swenson, Nebraska’s Briana Holman, Penn State’s Haleigh Washington and Wisconsin’s Sydney Hilley earn weekly honors

 

Player of the Week

Haleigh Washington, Penn State

MB – Sr. – Colorado Springs, Co. – Doherty

  • Averaged 2.40 kills and 1.40 blocks per game with a .500 hitting percentage to help No. 5 Penn State defeat top-ranked Stanford and Texas A&M in College Station, Texas
  • Recorded 10 kills on 16 attempts without committing a single error, for a hitting percentage of .625 to snap top-ranked Stanford’s 13-match win streak
  • Added 12 kills, six blocks and hit .417 in the five-set win over Texas A&M
  • Earns her sixth career Player of the Week award
  • Last Penn State Player of the Week: Simone Lee (Oct. 10, 2016)

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Briana Holman, Nebraska

MB – Sr. – DeSoto, Texas – Cedar Hill

  • Averaged 2.8 kills and 2.0 blocks per set with a .525 hitting percentage last weekend to pace Nebraska to the team title at the Ameritas Players Challenge
  • Named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, highlighted by 25 kills with a .525 hitting percentage to go with 18 blocks
  • The 2016 Academic All-Big Ten honoree collects her first career Defensive Player of the Week accolade
  • Last Nebraska Defensive Player of the Week: Amber Rolfzen (Nov. 7, 2016)

 

Setter of the Week

Samantha Seliger-Swenson, Minnesota

S – Jr. – Minnetonka, Minn. – Hopkins

  • Posted 126 set assists to average 14.0 per set with an .667 hitting percentage in guiding No. 2 Minnesota to straight-set wins at home over West Virginia, USTA and Tennessee
  • Piloted a Gophers’ offense that hit a season-best .396 against the Volunteers, adding a season-best 49 assists along with three kills, seven digs and two block assists
  • Named to the All-Tournament Team
  • Receives her seventh career Setter of the Week citation

Freshman of the Week

Sydney Hilley, Wisconsin

S – Brooklyn Park, Minn. – Champlin

  • Registered 116 set assists to average 12.89 per set, helping No. 6 Wisconsin post 3-0 wins over Syracuse, Arkansas and Kansas State
  • Posted a career-high four service aces against Syracuse, averaging 0.44 aces per set
  • Added 2.00 digs and 0.67 blocks per set across the three matches
  • Was error-free in hitting on the weekend, including a perfect three kills in as many attempts against Kansas State
  • Ran the Badger offense that hit .433 on the weekend
  • Receives her second career Setter of the Week award
