Minnesota, Ohio State and Wisconsin Earn Weekly Softball Awards

Golden Gophers’ Amber Fiser and MaKenna Partain, Buckeyes’ Niki Carver and Badgers’ Kelsey Jenkins receive Big Ten’s top honors this week

 

Co-Player of the Week

MaKenna Partain, Minnesota

2B – So. – Banks, Ore. – Banks

• Posted a .471 batting average with a .500 on-base percentage and a 1.176 slugging percentage last week, collecting three home runs, 10 RBI and scoring seven runs as the Golden Gophers swept five conference games against Wisconsin and Purdue

• Registered a career-high four RBI with a grand slam in the first game of Minnesota’s doubleheader sweep of Wisconsin on April 25

• Had at least two RBI in four of five games last week and hit home runs in the final two games of the weekend series at Purdue

• Earns her first career Player of the Week honor

• Last Minnesota Player of the Week: Dani Wagner (Feb. 12, 2018)

 

Co-Player of the Week

Kelsey Jenkins, Wisconsin

2B – Sr. – Tucson, Ariz. – Sabino

• Batted .643 with a .722 on-base percentage and a 1.214 slugging percentage last week, posting two home runs, nine RBI and seven runs scored in five conference games, including a three-game sweep at Nebraska

• Drove in five runs in the middle game of the set at Nebraska and had three RBI, including a home run, in the series finale on Sunday, capping the Badgers’ first-ever series win over the Huskers

• Registered multi-hit outings in all three games at Nebraska, including three-hit performances in the final two games of the series

• Earns her first career Player of the Week honor

Pitcher of the Week

Amber Fiser, Minnesota

RHP – So. – Van Horne, Iowa – Benton Community

• Went 4-0, including two complete-game shutouts and posted a 0.35 ERA in the circle last week, striking out 24 and walking one while allowing just six hits and one earned run in 20 innings

• Tossed her first perfect game on April 27 at Purdue, needing 45 pitches and registering six strikeouts in the five-inning victory

• Had a perfect game through five innings of the nightcap of a doubleheader against Wisconsin on April 25, striking out six before being relieved

• Earns her fourth career Pitcher of the Week honor and third this season

Freshman of the Week

Niki Carver, Ohio State

UTL – Gainesville, Ga. – North Hall

• Batted .625 with a .625 on-base percentage and a 1.375 slugging percentage, adding a home run, two RBI and four runs scored from the leadoff spot in Ohio State’s three-game sweep of visiting Maryland last weekend

• Had a home run and a triple in the series opener on April 27

• Added two hits in the middle game of the series and another in Sunday’s finale, extending her current hitting and on-base streaks to six games each

• Earns her second career Freshman of the Week honor
