Missouri S&T, Truman Earn Weekly GLVC Football Honors
INDIANAPOLIS – Missouri S&T junior quarterback Brennan Simms and sophomore linebacker Stefan Camplin, as well as Truman State University sophomore punt returner Spencer Newell, have earned Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors in football, it was announced by the league office Monday.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brennan Simms, Missouri S&T
Jr., QB, Punta Gorda, Florida
Major: Civil Engineering
Team Result: 49-21 win vs. Miles
Had a hand in all six of S&T’s offensive touchdowns, throwing for a career-high four scores and finding the end zone twice on one-yard runs
Finished with career-high 24 completions (on 34 attempts) for 268 yards, while adding 36 yards on the ground for a career-high 304 total yards
Has accounted for 13 of S&T’s 16 offensive touchdowns in the first three weeks of the season
S&T has scored 128 points to start the year – the most ever in the first three games
Earns his first career Offensive Player of the Week award

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Major: Electrical Engineering
Team Result: 49-21 win vs. Miles

Led Miners with eight tackles, including two for a loss
Returned an interception 79 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter to halt a Miles drive that had lasted more than six minutes at the time
Currently leads the Miners with 22 tackles on the season
Earns his first career Defensive Player of the Week award

Recorded the third special teams touchdown for the Bulldogs in three weeks
Ran back a 71-yard punt return in the second quarter to put Truman up 17-0
First punt return (non-blocked) touchdown for the Bulldgos since 2009
Second longest punt return for the program since 1979
Totaled 92 yards on five punt returns – an average of 18.4 yards per return
Bulldogs totaled 214 yards over nine kick and punt returns to average 23 yards per return
Earns his first career Special Teams Player of the Week award
Becomes third straight Truman specialist to earn league award
