Mitchell, Bell Headline SEU Representation on MSC Sun Division Postseason Honors List

COLUMBIA, Ky.-Southeastern University placed 11 players on the Mid-South All-Conference Sun Division teams, with two players recognized with special awards.

Senior defensive end Mike Mitchell was named the Mid-South Conference Sun Division Defensive Player of the Year, marking the second consecutive year an SEU player earned the honor. Mitchell posted 17.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks, helping the Fire limit opponents to an average of just 15.8 first downs per game.

Running back Bryan Bell was selected as the division’s Offensive Freshman of the Year, leading the Mid-South in rushing at 117.8 yards per game, and averaged 134.9 all-purpose yards per game. Bell rushed for 1,060 yards and seven touchdowns.

Joining Mitchell and Bell on the First-Team were offensive lineman Jordan Heldreth, wide receiver Antwain Adams, slot receiver Marque Northington, linebacker Lamont Trent, and defensive back Cory Rahman.

Heldreth earned all-conference recognition for the third time in his career, starting all 10 games at either center or tackle, and did not give up a sack for the Sun Division’s top scoring and rushing offense.

Adams was the Mid-South leader in receptions with 57, totaling 750 yards and seven touchdowns. Trent was second in the conference in tackles with 101, and Rahman was second in interceptions with six. Northington added 26 receptions for 242 yards and four touchdowns.

Second-Team honors went to offensive lineman Mike Davis, tight end Adam Toombs, kicker David Larson, defensive back Tyson Kee, and Northington as a returner.

The Fire finished the 2018 season with a 7-3 record and were co-champions of the Sun Division.
