Mohler Fuels Purdue in Sweep of IU

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – No. 19 Purdue (12-2, 2-1 B1G) defeated Indiana (11-4, 0-3 B1G) in three sets (25-16, 25-14, 25-15) at Holloway Gymnasium to earn its 10th straight victory over the Hoosiers and 10th three-set victory of the season. Blake Mohler and Danielle Cuttino fueled an offensive effort that featured 45 kills and a .494 hitting percentage.

Mohler had her way with the Hoosiers, hitting .833 with 10 kills on 12 errorless attempts to compliment her three blocks. Cuttino led all hitters in the contest with 14 kills and just one error on 25 attempts for a .520 hitting percentage. She and her sister
Shavona Cuttino each contributed five blocks on the night as Purdue out-blocked Indiana 10-2.

“That’s normally what we get from Blake, honestly,” said head coach
Dave Shondell. “She was missing in action on Saturday but she was really determined tonight to come back and be who she is.”

Ashley Evans was masterful as Purdue’s floor general, setting the offense on 38 of its 45 kills while adding a pair of kills and a pair of blocks of her own. Sherridan Atkinson also turned in a very efficient effort with a .444 hitting percentage thanks to nine kills and an error on 18 swings. The Long Beach, California, native also registered two blocks, two digs and a pair of aces. Azariah Stahl contributed seven kills, a block, an ace and four digs.

Brooke Peters led the backcourt that held Indiana to a .195 hitting percentage with 13 digs, an ace and another night of flawless serve receive. The performance is her ninth-consecutive match with 10 digs or more. Jena Otec added six digs to the defensive effort but made the biggest contribution with her serve as she was responsible for three of Purdue’s eight service aces in the contest.

Now the Boilermakers prepare for round two against Indiana as Purdue will defend the Monon Spike in Bloomington, Indiana, on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
