NABC National Teams of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (12-19-17) – Rutgers University, Lincoln Memorial University, Washington University in St. Louis, Columbia College (Mo.) and Ancilla Community College have been selected as the NABC Teams of the Week for games played Dec. 11-17.

NCAA Division I – Rutgers

Head Coach: Steve Pikiell

Rutgers improved its record to 10-3 overall on the season after a pair of victories last week. The Scarlet Knights opened the week with a 75-63 win over Fordham on Tuesday, then upset 15th-ranked Seton Hall on Saturday, 71-65. Rutgers’ win over the rival Pirates was the program’s first over a ranked opponent since January 2015. To earn the victory, the Scarlet Knights overcame a 13-point deficit and finished the game on a 17-2 run.

NCAA Division II – Lincoln Memorial

Head Coach: Josh Schertz

Lincoln Memorial continued its unbeaten start to the 2017-18 season by picking up three South Atlantic Conference wins last week. The victories improved LMU to 11-0 overall and 5-0 in league play. The Railsplitters got the week started with a dominant 156-69 win over Mars Hill on Monday, breaking the SAC’s single-game scoring record while also establishing a league record with 30 made three-pointers. LMU followed the performance with an 88-65 victory over Wingate on Wednesday and a 98-94 road win over Newberry on Saturday.

NCAA Division III – Washington

Head Coach: Mark Edwards

Wash U. claimed a pair of road wins last week by a combined total of 56 points to improve to 8-1 overall and 4-1 away from home. On Tuesday, the Bears shot 56.7-percent en route to a 98-68 victory over Fontbonne. Then on Sunday, Wash U. used a dominant first half to claim a 95-69 win over regional rival Illinois Wesleyan, which entered the game with just one loss on the season. 

NAIA – Columbia

Head Coach: Bob Burchard

Columbia defeated American Midwest Conference rivals Freed-Hardeman and Williams Baptist last week, moving its record to 12-1 overall and 4-1 in the league. On Thursday, the Cougars outscored Freed-Hardeman 19-5 in overtime to earn a 96-82 road victory. Columbia picked up another road win on Saturday, allowing just 37-percent shooting in an 82-67 victory over Williams Baptist.

NJCAA – Ancilla

Head Coach: Aaron Butcher

Ancilla won its lone game last week against then-undefeated and ninth-ranked Olive-Harvey College, 71-62. The Chargers are off to their best start in program history at 9-0, and were ranked fifth in the most recent NJCAA Division II poll – their highest ranking ever.

The next NABC Teams of the Week release will be on Tuesday, January 9, for games from Jan. 1-7, 2018.
