Nebraska, Northwestern and Ohio State Earn Weekly Women’s Soccer Awards

Nebraska’s Sinclaire Miramontez, Northwestern’s Mackenzie Wood and Ohio State’s Kayla Fischer are this week’s honorees

 

Offensive Player of the Week/Co-Freshman of the Week

Kayla Fischer, Ohio State

F – Fr. – Kent, Ohio – Kent Roosevelt

• Scored the game-winning goal in the 56th minute of Ohio State’s 1-0 win at No. 5 Florida on Aug. 24

• Her first career goal helped the Buckeyes defeat their highest-ranked opponent since Nov. 7, 2004, when they downed No. 3 Penn State, 2-0 in the Big Ten Tournament championship game in Columbus

• Earns her first career Offensive Player of the Week award

• Last Ohio State Offensive Player of the Week: Sammy Edwards (Oct. 26, 2017)

• Receives her first career Freshman of the Week honor

• Last Ohio State Freshman of the Week: Izzy Rodriguez (Oct. 10, 2017)

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Sinclaire Miramontez, Nebraska

D – Jr. – Lenexa, Kan. – Shawnee Mission West

• Anchored Huskers’ defense that posted shutouts over visiting Oregon and Oregon State last weekend

• Helped Nebraska hold Oregon State without a shot on goal in Sunday’s 3-0 victory

• Also scored a goal in the victory over the Beavers

• Earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2017

• Garners her first career Defensive Player of the Week award

• Last Nebraska Defensive Player of the Week: Aubrei Corder (Oct. 25, 2016)

 

Goalkeeper of the Week/Co-Freshman of the Week

Mackenzie Wood, Northwestern

GK – Fr. – Granger, Ind. – Penn

• Recorded two shutouts and made 11 combined saves in leading the Wildcats to a win over Iowa State and a scoreless draw against No. 25/18 West Virginia at last weekend’s Boilermaker Challenge Cup

• Collected 10 saves in Sunday’s draw against WVU on the way to earning the tournament’s Defensive MVP award

• Receives her first career Goalkeeper of the Week accolade

• Last Northwestern Goalkeeper of the Week: N/A (new award for 2018)

• Garners her first career Freshman of the Week award

• Last Northwestern Freshman of the Week: Kayleigh Stahlschmidt (Oct. 24, 2017)
