Niaves Scores First Career Goal; PNW Men’s Soccer Falls to Tiffin, 2-1
HAMMOND, Ind. – Freshman midfielder Isaiah Niaves (Lyons Township, Ill./Lyons Township) scored his first career goal, but the Purdue Northwest men’s soccer team dropped a hard-fought game with Tiffin University (Ohio), 2-1, Friday afternoon at Pepsi Field in Dowling Park in Hammond, Ind.  It was the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opener for the Pride.

The Dragons struck first in the game’s 18th minute when sophomore Limamu Mohammed sent a cross from the right side that was finished off by sophomore Darren Appanah.  The score stayed 1-0 through the end of the first half.  In the 64th minute, Niaves tied the game with a hard shot from the left side that was set up by junior midfielder Felix Guenzel (Munich, Germany/UNOH)

Unfortunately for the Pride, senior Travis Simat scored the game’s deciding goal in the 74th minute with the winning shot coming off a deflected shot attempt off the left post.  Senior Miguel David (Spring Valley, Calif./Bonita Vista) finished the game with two saves for PNW.  Niaves recorded three of Purdue Northwest’s seven shots in the game and two of the team’s three shots on goal.

The Pride are back in action on Sunday, September 17, hosting Ashland University (Ohio) for a GLIAC match-up.  The game is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start at Pepsi Field at Dowling Park in Hammond.
