Nick Robinson Signs Agreement to Join Valpo Men’s Basketball Program

Another Chicago native will take the floor for the Valparaiso University men’s basketball program, as head coach Matt Lottich announced today that Nick Robinson has signed an agreement to join the Crusaders. Robinson, a transfer from Saint Joseph’s with two seasons of eligibility remaining, will sit out the 2018-19 campaign due to transfer regulations and will be eligible for the Crusaders starting with the 2019-20 season.

“We’ve known Nick for a long time, since we recruited him originally out of high school,” said Lottich. “Nick is a big, playmaking guard who can score in a variety of ways. We love his versatility and really believe he embodies all the qualities we look for in a Valpo basketball player. We are excited for Nick to use this upcoming year to take the next step in his game, develop physically and fine-tune his skills so he’s ready to make a big impact for us when he becomes eligible.”

A 6’6”, 195 lb. wing, Robinson appeared in 62 games for Saint Joseph’s over his two seasons, starting 30 times. He averaged 6.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game with the Hawks, including 7.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game last season as a sophomore, when he was named the Robert O’Neill Award winner as the team’s Most Improved Player. Robinson closed his sophomore year strong, bumping his averages to 9.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in Atlantic 10 play. He scored in double figures in each of his final seven games of the season, averaging 14.1 points and 7.1 rebounds over that stretch.

Robinson is a product of Kenwood Academy in Chicago, where he was a Second Team All-State selection from both the Associated Press and the IBCA as a senior. Robinson led the Broncos to 22 wins in 2015-16, averaging 17 points and nine rebounds per game. He helped Kenwood to its first city championship game as a senior and led it to consecutive Public League Red-Central titles in his final two seasons. Robinson was a three-star recruit out of high school and a consensus top-10 player in his class in the state of Illinois.

Valpo now has two transfers sitting out next season – both Robinson and previously-announced Seton Hall transfer Eron Gordon will have two years of eligibility remaining, beginning with the 2019-20 season. Robinson’s addition also gives the Crusaders two Chicago natives on their roster next season, as he is joined by incoming freshman Javon Freeman-Liberty.
