No. 1 Knights hand Grace first loss of season
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Grace’s volleyball team tasted its first defeat of the year at the hands of No. 1 Marian on Wednesday.
The Knights’ offense was hard to stop on Wednesday night, producing 52 kills on a .342 percentage during a 3-0 sweep.
The Lady Lancers (5-1, 5-1 Crossroads League), on the other hand, had 30 kills on a .124 percentage.
Anna Frey tallied nine kills and six digs, and Katie Swanson tallied five kills. But no other player for Grace topped three kills.
Grace and Marian battled to a close score in the opening set. Marian held a slight 19-18 edge in the final stages, but Grace committed three errors in quick succession. Late kills from Frey and Jenna Mueller were not enough as Marian won 25-20.
The momentum for the Knights (4-0, 4-0 CL) carried into the second set. Marian scored the first three points and coasted to a 13-point win.
The Knights secured the sweep 25-17 in the third set.
Julia Nagy led all players with 20 digs, and Gina Novotny added five digs and an ace.
The Lady Lancers are back home on Saturday. Grace faces off with Bethel at 3 p.m. at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.
