MISHAWAKA, Ind. — The regular season ends with a three-game winning streak to secure a fifth seed in the Crossroads League Tournament for the #15 Bethel Pilots (12-4-2, 5-4-0) as they shutout the (RV) Grace Lancers 2-0 at Morey Field Wednesday night.

Senior keeper Benjamin Venegas extends his record to 4-0-0 on the season after recording a five-save clean sheet with impressive saves in both halves to keep the Lancers away.

Sami Charaf Amal is tied for fifth in program history with 12 assists this season which ties Tim Noeding (’22) and Andy Rodriguez (’00) for assists in a single season and Piero Sabroso is one goal away from tying Tim Bailey (’80) for goals in a single season. Charaf Amal is also at the top of the NAIA in assists over Indiana Wesleyan’s Brandon Nyagurungo.

In the 13th minute, Piero Sabroso was denied by Matteo Conci in a back-and-forth offensive battle, between the Lancers and Pilots, and Andres Gonzalez Maza was blocked in the 14th minute.

Grace turned around in the 17th minute with two shots by Daniel Santos Rosa and Kyle Holwerda which were denied by Venegas with some acrobatics to keep the Lancers at bay.

With the half coming to a close, Miguel Martins missed a long boot wide left off a corner from Charaf Amal and the match would go scoreless into halftime.

In the 50th minute, a foul by the keeper Conci would set the Pilots up for a free kick at the edge of the box that was taken by Charaf Amal tapped to Gonzalez Maza then booted in by Miguel Martins for his first goal this season and Charaf Amal’s 12th assist that tied him for fifth in program history and Gonzalez Maza tallied his sixth assist.

The Lancers were denied in the 60th minute by Venegas and Juan Garcia hit the post in the 61st minute but Miki Fujita ( connected with Sabroso in the box for his 18th goal this season which surpassed Indiana Wesleyan’s Brandon Nyagurungo for the best in the NAIA in goals.
