For Immediate Press Release – Saturday, November 11, 2017

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Sophomore Peyton Jones (Langhorne, Pa.) made 26 saves, but it was not enough as No. 6 Notre Dame defeated No. 19 Penn State, 1-0, in Big Ten Conference action to close out the weekend series this evening at Compton Family Ice Arena.

The Nittany Lions fall to 5-7-0 on the year and 2-4-0 in the Big Ten with the loss while the Irish move to 8-3-1 overall and a perfect 4-0-0 in the conference following the weekend sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams has chances back-and-forth during a fast paced first period, but neither could find the back of the net as Jones and Fighting Irish sophomore Cale Morris made 12 and 15 saves, respectively.
  • The Irish got on the board first taking advantage of a scramble in front of the net it was Bo Brauer securing his second goal in as many nights as he found the loose puck and flicked it over the outstretched glove of Jones into the top right corner of the net for the 1-0 lead at 14:12 of the second period.

GOALTENDING

Jones finished with 26 saves, but falls to 5-5-0 on the year in the defeat while Morris improves to 7-1-0 after stopping 33 shots in the victory.

NOTES

  • Sophomore Nikita Pavlychev (Yaroslavl, Russia) and junior Andrew Sturtz (Buffalo, N.Y.) each see their four-game goal and point streaks snapped.
  • Penn State is shut out for the first time all season and the first since its regular season finale last year at Michigan exactly eight months ago on March 11, 2017.
  • Notre Dame takes the all-time series lead at 3-2-1 after the weekend sweep.
  • Penn State held the 33-27 edge in shots, but went 0-for-4 with the man-advantage. The Nittany Lions did, however, go 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
