Muskegon, MI – Today’s 113-89 victory over Muskegon Community College could push #2 Ancilla into the #1 spot in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II poll on Tuesday. Current #1, Cuyahoga Community College, lost earlier this week.
The Chargers (20-1, 10-0) led the entire first half and played well to start the second half. They missed a couple of baskets and Muskegon got hot and even took the lead briefly. Ancilla recharged and picked up both their offense and defense to win going away.
“I am really proud of the way that we finished the game,” said Ancilla head coach Aaron Butcher. “We weren’t sharp defensively early and that kept the game close. We were really good the last 10 minutes which allowed us to open up a 28-point lead. It was another balanced attack and we again got solid contributions from several guys.”
Ancilla placed five players in double-figures led by DK Fox with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Jair Rodgers added 22 points and Teyon Scanlan scored 20. Tyler Chisom netted 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Erick Shepherd chipped in 12 points.
Ancilla will complete their three-game road trip on Wednesday when they travel to Battle Creek, MI to play Kellogg Community College at 7:30 p.m. Ancilla beat Kellogg 91-54 in early January at the LifePlex.
