No. 20 TU Takes Down No. 16 Indiana Tech

UPLAND, Ind. – No. 20 Taylor posted a 9-7 victory over No. 16 Indiana Tech on Wednesday. Offensive firepower fueled the midweek win, as the Trojans tacked on three home runs in the contest.

With Wednesday’s victory, 20th-ranked TU (24-8) logged its third win in four games against No. 16 Indiana Tech (16-10) this season. All four contests were decided by two or fewer runs.

TJ Bass, Brett Lawson and Josh Lane combined for three home runs, which doubled the team’s season total. In the opening frame, Bass and Lawson both tallied two-run shots to give Taylor an early 4-0 lead.

Luke Carlson started on the mound for the Trojans, tossing three hitless innings. Walks and hit batters got the better of him in the third inning, allowing one earned run through the outing. Obtaining the win in relief, Andrew Kennedy (3-0) nabbed five outs without giving up a run.

Senior Lane’s homer was the first of his career with junior Lawson grabbing his fifth-career long ball and freshman Bass picking up his second-career home run.

Nick Rusche sparked rallies in the fifth and seventh frames, knocking a single and a double to help TU score four runs between the two innings. Bass was solid in the cleanup spot with three RBI and two runs scored.

Freshmen Conner Crawford and Ben Kalbaugh each roped a double on the night, contributing to the six extra-base hits from the Trojans.

The Purple and Gold (24-8, 4-4 CL) will return to league action on Thursday at 6:30 pm, as the team faces Goshen (9-17, 3-6 CL) in a home contest.
