No. 22 TU Downs Campbellsville for Third-Straight Win

UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor women’s soccer team defeated Campbellsville, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at Turner Stadium to open the season 3-0 for the second-consecutive season.

The 22nd-ranked Trojans jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, as Megan Kammer found Bailey Zehr in front of the goal for the first score of the game after just 1:46 of game action.

After the early strike by TU, Campbellsville (0-4) was able to keep the Purple and Gold off the board the rest of the opening half.

Taylor held a 10-2 shot advantage over the Tigers in the first 45 minutes but was only able to convert on the one goal.

The second period was very similar to the first, as TU quickly netted two goals in the first six minutes after the intermission.

Nikki Zaino produced the first goal of the second half for the Trojans after just 26 seconds of action had passed, when Zehr dribbled past the diving CU keeper and set up Zaino for the score from three yards out.

Kammer then headed in a corner kick from Jourdan Lehman in the 51st minute for the third and final TU goal of the day.

Campbellsville cracked the scoreboard with its lone goal in the 63rd minute to make the final tally.

The Trojans ended the game with a 19-7 edge over CU in shots, including an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Zehr and Kammer spearheaded the TU attack with a goal and an assist apiece, while Zaino scored in her third-straight game and Lehman added her third assist of the season.

No. 22 Taylor (3-0) will play its third game of a four-game home stand on Wednesday, when the team takes on No. 9 Columbia (3-0) at 4:00 pm inside Turner Stadium.
