[7] Purdue 90, USC 72 (Postgame Notes)
- Purdue won its fourth straight game and moved to 19-5 overall and 11-2 in the Big Ten Conference with a 90-72 victory over USC on Friday night.
- Purdue is 11-2 in Big Ten play through 13 games for the third straight season.
- The victory was Purdue’s 14th combined quad-1 and quad-2 win of the season, the second most in the country behind Auburn (15).
- Purdue had eight players score at least seven points, getting 26 points off the bench, the most since the bench had 37 points against Nebraska (Jan. 12 – span of seven games).
- Purdue has now won six Big Ten games by at least 18 points, the most 18-point (or more) victories by Purdue in school history.
- This year’s senior class (consisting of Caleb Furst) set the school record for most wins in a career with 111, surpassing last year’s senior class (110).
- Purdue won its 70th Big Ten game over the last five years. The league record for most wins in a five-year span is 71 (Indiana, 1974-78).
- Purdue has won 127 straight games when scoring 90 or more points, last losing on Nov. 26, 1987, to Iowa State – a span of 13,591 days.
- Purdue is now 105-3 since the 2017-18 season when scoring at least 80 points.
- During Purdue’s four-game win streak, the Boilermakers are averaging 88.0 points and shooting 52.5 percent from the field. The Boilermakers are shooting 52.5 percent, despite shooting just 33.0 percent from deep during that span. Purdue is 97-of-152 (.638) from inside the arc during that span.
- Purdue’s 66.7 first-half field goal percentage was the best shooting percentage in a half this season. Purdue shot 27-of-40 (.675) from inside the 3-point line against the Trojans.
- Trey Kaufman-Renn recorded his third double-double of the season with 24 points and 10 rebounds. He went 8-of-12 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free throw line. Over the last six games, he is 30-of-36 (.833) from the free throw line.
- Kaufman-Renn is now averaging 22.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game over his last six games.
- Braden Smith scored nine points with 13 assists, five steals and three rebounds. He moved into second on Purdue’s single-season assists list, now with 211 (behind his 292 he had last season). He also moved into 12th on the Big Ten’s list for career assists (656). Smith’s 656 assists are the 20th most for a player in his first three seasons in NCAA history.
- Smith recorded his 20th career 10-assist game, the most in the Big Ten Conference over the last 20 years.
