No. 9 Saints Shoot Past Trojans

UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor men’s lacrosse team suffered a 21-10 loss to No. 9 Siena Heights on Saturday, as the Saints took control during the second quarter and handed TU its fourth-straight setback.

The two sides battled evenly throughout the opening 15 minutes of action, with SHU (7-4, 4-2 WHAC) grabbing a 4-3 lead on a goal with 10 seconds remaining in the period.

The game shifted in favor of the Saints from there, as Taylor struggled to gain possession and SHU outshot the Trojans by a 42-9 margin over the second and third quarters to open a 19-8 cushion.

The Saints closed the game with 21 more shots than Taylor but the rest of the team stats fell nearly even, with TU holding a plus-two edge in ground balls, winning 17-of-35 faceoffs and only committing two more turnovers than the guests.

Josiah Peterson closed with three goals and eight ground balls, with Tyler Gerig also recording a hat trick. Ian McClain added two goals to go with eight ground balls and Grant Gerig posted two goals, three assists and six ground balls.

Nathan Sahly paced the defense once again with nine ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Teegan Heiniger had eight ground balls and 16 faceoff wins. Kyle Mongovan was active in the net once again with 18 saves.

RV Taylor (5-5, 1-5 WHAC) will play another Top-10 foe on Wednesday, when it heads to No. 3 Indiana Tech (10-2, 4-1 WHAC) for a 7:00 pm start. The Trojans will then close their regular season at home on April 20 at 1:00 pm against Concordia (3-7, 0-5 WHAC).
