Nolan, Barnhill earn 2019 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II weekly honors after opening weekend

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Virginia Tech senior Caitlyn Nolan and Florida senior Kelly Barnhill were named the first Louisville/Slugger NFCA Division I National Player and Pitcher of the Week honorees of the 2019 season.

Nolan, who batted .714, recorded an extra-base hit and RBI in each of the Hokies’ five contests last week. The Bennettsville, S.C. native registered three doubles, two home runs and a 1.357 slugging percentage, while driving in nine runs and scoring eight more times. Helping Virginia Tech to a 5-0 start, Nolan homered in wins over Wichita State and Central Michigan. She Scored three times and knocked in three runs versus the Shockers, while driving in two and scoring twice against the Chippewas. Nolan proceeded to double in her final three games against Purdue, host College of Charleston and the Boilermakers.

Barnhill appeared in all five games during the Gators’ opening weekend against nationally-ranked competition. The hard-throwing righty picked up four wins and also recorded a save. Barnhill, who surrendered two runs on six hits, recorded a 0.74 ERA with 26 strikeouts and four walks in 19 innings of work. The Marietta, Ga. native twirled a complete-game shutout against then-No. 19 Michigan and earned her fourth career save versus then-No. 7 Arizona. Against USF, she fanned a season-high 11 batters over five innings of work.
