Ohio State Clinches Share of Big Ten Women’s Soccer Title
Buckeyes earn piece of their second conference championship and top seed for Big Ten Tournament
ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Ohio State women’s soccer team secured a share of the Big Ten Conference women’s soccer title on Friday by virtue of its 2-1 win at Minnesota, coupled with Penn State’s 2-2 draw at home to Purdue. It’s the Buckeyes’ second Big Ten championship and their first since they shared the 2010 crown with Penn State.
Nikki Walts and Sammy Edwards scored goals for Ohio State (13-3-1, 8-2-0 Big Ten) in Friday night’s win at Minnesota. The victory gave the Buckeyes 24 points in conference play this season, three more than Penn State (10-3-3, 6-1-3) with one match remaining in the regular season. OSU will play host to Indiana in its regular-season finale next Wednesday, Oct. 25, while PSU travels to Wisconsin the same night to close the regular season.
Friday’s results also assured OSU of the top seed for the Big Ten Tournament, thanks to the Buckeyes’ 1-0 win over PSU earlier this season.
The Big Ten Tournament will kick off Oct. 29 with quarterfinal matches on the campuses of the top four seeds. The semifinals and championship match will be played at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana, and will be televised live on BTN.
The full Big Ten Tournament bracket will be released following the completion of the regular season on Oct. 25.
