Partain’s Free Kick Wins Double Overtime Match at Home
UPLAND, Ind. – Three minutes into the second overtime period, Quinn Partain set up for a free kick just outside of the box and quickly placed a shot to the far post for the game-ending score.
Taylor (2-0) and Lourdes (0-1) fought in a scoreless battle for 103 minutes at Turner Stadium on Tuesday. In the midst of the second overtime, Peter Linn gathered a pass from Josiah Wieland and pushed the ball forward before being fouled from behind. As both teams found their positions for the free kick, Partain caught the visitors off guard and posted his first career goal.
Luke Williams was excellent in the goal for TU, recording his eighth-career shutout. On the night, the senior collected two saves, including a clutch stop on a clear path Lourdes attack with nine minutes remaining in regulation.
The Trojans maintained a stingy defense that kept the Gray Wolves off the scoreboard. Alex Gallup logged solid minutes on the back line, snuffing out many of the opposition’s attack efforts.
The TU squad has now posted back-to-back wins to start a season for the first time since 2012 and will hope to continue its winning ways on Saturday on the road against Indiana Tech at 7:00 pm.
