ROSEMONT, Ill. – With a victory tonight by Wisconsin, as well as a shootout win by Michigan, Penn State clinched at least a share of the Big Ten Championship. In addition to their first Big Ten regular-season crown, the Nittany Lions (20-10-4, 12-8-4-1 Big Ten) secured the No. 1 seed and accompanying first-round bye in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament.
Penn State is idle this weekend after taking five of six points against Minnesota last weekend. The Nittany Lions, who are 3-1-2 in their last six contests, would win the tiebreaker with the Gophers should both teams finish the season with 41 points based on the Nittany Lions’ 12 conference victories.
The 2020 Big Ten Tournament will feature a three-weekend format with all games taking place on the campus of the higher-seeded teams. The tournament will open March 6-8 with three best-of-three quarterfinal series, as the second-, third- and fourth-seeded teams will each host a series.
As the top-seeded team, Penn State will have a bye to the single-elimination semifinals, which will take place the weekend of March 14-15. The highest-seeded team remaining after the semifinals will host a single-elimination championship game the weekend of March 21-22.
