Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin Earn Weekly Volleyball Awards

Penn State’s Simone Lee, Purdue’s Sherridan Atkinson and Ashley Evans, and Wisconsin’s Dana Rettke earn weekly honors

 

Player of the Week

Sherridan Atkinson, Purdue

OH – Jr. – Long Beach, Calif. – Millikan
• Averaged 4.4 kills and 1.9 digs per set with a .364 hitting percentage, helping No. 21 Purdue earn a pair of top-10 conference victories
• Registered 17 kills, eight digs and four blocks in the four-set victory over No. 5 Minnesota
• Posted 14 kills, five blocks and five digs for a .480 hitting percentage in the Boilermakers’ straight-set victory over No. 10 Wisconsin

• Earns her first career Player of the Week award
• Last Purdue Player of the Week: Danielle Cuttino (Sept. 12, 2016)

Defensive Player of the Week

Simone Lee, Penn State

OH – Sr. – Menomonee Falls, Wis. – Menomonee

• Averaged 4.3 kills and 4.7 digs per set and recorded back-to-back double-doubles to help top-ranked Penn State defeat Iowa and Maryland on the weekend

• Recorded 16 kills, 15 digs, three blocks and was error-free on 20 reception attempts to help the team hit .350 in the straight-set win at Iowa

• Posted 13 digs, 10 kills and two blocks to help the Nittany Lions sweep Maryland

• Earns her third career Player of the Week award

Setter of the Week

Ashley Evans, Purdue

S – Sr. – Liberty Township, Ohio – Lakota East

• Averaged 14.6 assists per set with a .300 hitting percentage in guiding No. 21 Purdue to a pair of top-10 conference wins

• Registered 102 set assists, 18 digs, 10 kills and a block across two matches

• Earned her ninth double-double of the season with 44 set assists and 10 digs in Purdue’s straight-set victory over No. 10 Wisconsin

• The Academic All-Big Ten honoree receives her second career Setter of the Week citation

• Last Purdue Setter of the Week: Ashley Evans (Oct. 2, 2017)

Freshman of the Week

Dana Rettke, Wisconsin

MB – Riverside, Ill. – Riverside-Brookfield

• Averaged 4.2 kills and 1.7 blocks per set with a .465 hitting percentage as No. 10 Wisconsin went 1-1 in Big Ten action on the weekend

• Posted 14 kills, a match-high seven blocks and a service ace for a .571 hitting percentage in the Badgers’ straight-set victory at Indiana

• Registered 11 kills, while adding three blocks and a pair of service aces at No. 21 Purdue

• Garners her eighth Freshman of the Week honor – a Big Ten record
