Penn State Secures Outright Big Ten Women’s Soccer Title
Nittany Lions clinch first outright crown since 2014, along with No. 1 seed for Big Ten Tournament
ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Penn State women’s soccer team clinched the outright 2018 Big Ten Conference women’s soccer title on Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 win at home over Minnesota. The Nittany Lions, who had secured a share of their conference-record 19th Big Ten championship on Thursday, earned their first outright title since 2014.
Kerry Abello scored both goals for Penn State (13-5-0, 9-2-0 Big Ten) in Sunday’s title-clinching win over Minnesota. The Nittany Lions, who won their final seven games of the regular season, finished Big Ten play with 27 points and have earned the No. 1 seed for the Big Ten Tournament, which kicks off Oct. 28 with quarterfinal games on the campuses of the top four seeds. The semifinals and championship game will be played Nov. 2 & 4 at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana, and all three games will be televised live on BTN, with additional coverage on BTN’s digital platform, BTN2Go, and the FOX Sports app.
