Pilots baseball split with USF

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The Bethel College baseball team pitched a three-hit shutout in the front end of a double header on Tuesday before giving up a late lead in game two to earn the split with Saint Francis, 5-0 in game one and 7-5 in game two.

Andrew Bobeck and Kory Goodrich combined for a three-hit shutout in game one, throwing a combined 85 pitches in the win.
Game two featured four lead changes with the Pilots taking a 1-0 lead in the third inning, the Cougars taking a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh, the Pilots retaking a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the seventh, and the Cougars taking the final 7-5 advantage after their frame in the eighth.
Sullivan Swingley and Jose Madrid both allowed go-ahead three-run home runs in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively.
Josh Gilliam came up with a huge, two-out, two-RBI single in the seventh inning on just his third hit of the season.
Andrew Bobeck earned his team-leading fourth win of the season and lowered his ERA to 3.46 over 39.0 innings of work to date. It is his third appearance of the season without allowing any earned runs.

The Pilots travel to Indianapolis to take on Marian in a three-game series starting Friday at 4:00 pm.
